Our Questions
We asked a series of questions in interviews and focus groups to find out what our target audiences wanted from our movie.
We had four sections of questions for our interviewees. The first section was to get a brief insight of our interviewees and how they feel about horror movies. Our second section concentrates on our protagonist and location. We wanted to know how they felt about our idea. The third section is about the killing within the movie, how the storyline is going to be interesting and intense. Last but not least the aims of the fourth section is to have and idea of what our trailer should include and the themes that should be associated with our movie/trailer. 1. What was your last horror movie?
2. Did you enjoy it? 3. What did you enjoy about it and why? 1. How Effective do you think teenagers are in horror movies? 2. Would you prefer teenagers in uniform or own clothes and why? 3. Would you like the movie to be based in a school 1. What kind of people will the protagonist kill if they where in a school 2. How would you like/prefer people to be killed? 3. What is your ultimate killing scene in a horror? 1. What color scheme do you think will fit our movie/sub-genre? 2. How do you feel about dialogue or soundtrack? 3. Which do you prefer in a trailer? 4. Would you like for the protagonist to be shown in the trailer. |
Our FindingsIn the process of interviewing our very helpful participants, we managed to draw up some useful information from the responses we have received which have resulted in acknowledgment of what our target audience will want.
from our audience research we were made aware that our target audience of 15 years old upwards, wont like to see the killer in their trailer, they explained that the revealing of the killer will make the trailer less effective as well as giving away too much. our audience also said they would be less willing to go and watch a movie where the killer has already been seen because they will know what to look out for. From our research it was suggested that the more effective genre of horror movies amongst our targeted audience was the psychological/ supernatural kind. Some of these movies that were watch by our interviewees were the supernatural kind and were described as scary. these movies are very current and are popular in the cinemas today, most of the horror movies today including 'drag me to hell', "paranormal activity" and "insidious" come under this sub genre of horror. our audience said these movies are both realistic and contain unexpected scenes that kept them on the edge of their seats. this suggests that the more successful movies are the ones that could be true and the threat is unknown. The effectiveness of unexpected scenes mean the audience do not like to know what is going on, this leads to twists and turns in the story line. another advantage to a psychological/ supernatural movie is the ability to play with your mind". Our audience have said they enjoy movies with sequels as they reveal more into the storyline, in a long term period. However interviewees have said they wont like sequel movies with more than 3 sequels as this is deemed to be more than necessary and drags the movie on. Children play an important role as the protagonist/ killer their youthful, innocence trick viewers and the purity act as a vessel for attracting evil, this could contribute to a twist or an unexpected turn once the killer is revealed.
